wazza Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I bought my galaxy from new in February and have now done 6600miles. Every time the car is started it says service in so many miles (It now reads 700 miles). Is this correct or is it a fault with the computer, what will happen when it reaches 0miles till service? Quote
sexysi Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 No it's not a fault, the Galaxy flashes this up when the computer thinks it needs a service. It should read Service Miles and then the milage. You will also get a Oil service one coming up soon as well. These are just little reminders that Mr Ford wants his money. You can reset them yourself, Not sure of the combination.I think you switch the car off, take the key out put it back in turn the car on but not start it and then press the milage reset button for say 10 seconds then it should go out. I thinkYou could always phone up Ford and ask for the right combination to reset the clock backsexysi Quote
johnb80 Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Hold the mileometer reset button in, turn on the ignition, job done! I beleive on some models you have to open the bonnet first. Regards - John Quote
Davetheref Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 BLAST !!!! I could have sold it to him on Ebay like all the others. :( Quote

Every time the car is started it says service in so many miles (It now reads 700 miles). Makes me suspect that your clock was reset before delivery by dealer as first service should be at 10,000 miles! Your "new" car really had 2500 miles on it! Is this correct or is it a fault with the computer, what will happen when it reaches 0miles till service? It refuses to start until you show it a bill for Quote
johnb80 Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 BLAST !!!! I could have sold it to him on Ebay like all the others. <_< <_< Humble apologies Davetheref, I never thought about ripping someone off, obviously why I didn't become a Ford Dealer <_< Quote
wazza Posted September 12, 2005 Author Report Posted September 12, 2005 Finally got throught to ford about the service warning on the computer. Their explanantion was that most ford cars along with other manufacturers are tested (rolling road) and are done for around 4000miles and was not reset when it was delivered which would explain why the computer service warning is coming on early. Is this true are as I suspect he is pulling my leg. I am amazed that all cars are 'driven' 4000miles before you pick up a 'New' car. Can anyone enlighten me. Thanks in advance. Quote
johnb80 Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Absolute hogwash, I would have asked for his name and then asked to speak to his supervisor. Regards - John Quote
seatkid Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 So they more or less admitted it...More like " we used it as a demonstrator/sales rep/runabout for about 2500 miles...." (10000 - 6600 - 700 = 2700) Delivery miles should be no more than 200 miles, usually less than 50. Contact Ford Customer Service....And demand a full history.... Quote
Andrew T Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 IIRC many years ago, in the days of good old fashioned milometers BMW used to factory fit them with a reading of 999,990 or similar. The idea was that the dealer could do his PDI road test and the milometer would roll around to zero, then the car would be delivered to the first owner with as near a zero reading as possible. After a quiet word from trading standards they agreed to desist. Quote
greg_68 Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I think you will find most manufacturers rolling road tests are in the region of equivalent to 5 miles. There is a limit to how many miles a new car can have on the clock and still be classed as new when first sold, I think it is about 80 miles. Above this the DOT see it as a used car. Quote
Andrew T Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 A few years ago a friend who was a service manager for garage selling an "upmarket brand" was asked to disconnect the speedos of the top of the range cars the MD and sales manger ran around in. In the days of cable drives the cable was unhooked, when electronic speedos came in a switch was installed in the cable, hidden up behind the fascia. The cars were subsequently sold as "our MDs own car - low milage".But I'm sure the motor trade doesn't do things like that these days. Quote
wazza Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 I have phoned up a different Ford dealer for a second opinion and they say that the computer service warning has come on due to the car being driven hard. To my knowledge it hasnt been driven hard only normal school runs, shops etc. (Unles my wife has been having street races during the day). What does anyone think. One dealership is telling me that the computer comes on every 10000miles and another says it is when the car is driven hard. I am now getting confused  :( Quote
seatkid Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 RUBBISH! Fords do not support variable service intervals, and even if they did the interval is typically 22000-28000 miles. You are not going to get any sense or truth talking to monkeys at dealers. Phone Ford UK Customer Service and demand a written explanation. IIRC The Speedo units can only be reset twice and by a limited amount. I believe the information is all stored in the speedo and can be retreived. See This post about speedo programming Quote
